All - USA Academic Team

The All-USA Academic Team for Community Colleges competition is sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, the American Association of Community Colleges and USA TODAY.  This program recognizes scholarly achievements and leadership accomplishments of students enrolled in community, technical and junior colleges.

Presidents of eligible colleges or their designees are invited to submit as many as two nominations from each campus of their institutions. In selecting their institutions' nominees, presidents are asked to consider outstanding grade point averages; participation in honors programs; awards, honors, and recognition for academic achievement and service to the college and the community.

Independent judges review the applications and select 20-member First, Second and Third Teams. First Team members each receive a $2,500 cash stipend.  First, Second and Third Team members will be featured in USA TODAY on April 10, 2000. Academic Team nominees will also have the opportunity to apply for the Phi Theta Kappa Washington, D.C. Internship Program, with positions available at the U.S. Department of Education, the National Science Foundation, Association of Community College Trustees, American Association of Community Colleges, and Phi Beta Kappa.
