Information on the GED

IMPORTANT INFORMATON:

If you have taken any of the official GED tests beginning in 2002 and have not finished testing please be aware that a new version of the test will be out in January 2014.  If you do not finish your tests by December 31, 2013 you will lose your scores and have to start over on the new version of the test.  Beginning later this year the Official GED Tests will also be administered on the computer.  The process for signing up to take the tests will change.  As soon as more information is available, I will update this page.  Please call Jean at 541-506-6041 for more information.

WHAT IS A GED CERTIFICATE?
The certificate is not a high school diploma--rather, it is a high school equivalency. In other words, it certifies that the holder has a general educational background equal to that of the average high school graduate.

WHY SHOULD YOU GET A GED CERTIFICATE?
When selecting employees or accepting applicants to schools and training programs, most employers, schools, and apprenticeship programs consider the GED certificate a satisfactory substitute for the high school diploma. The GED is accepted for admission to Oregon 4-year colleges when an overall average of 580 is achieved.

WHO MAY EARN A GED CERTIFICATE?
To earn a GED certificate, you must be at least 18 years old; if you are 16 or 17 years old you must obtain a written release from compulsory school attendance.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PASS THE GED?
To earn a GED Certificate, you must pass each of the five tests on the GED exam with a minimum standard score of 410 or above and have an average score of 450 or above on the GED exam. (A perfect score is 780-800.) If you do not pass any of the five tests, you may take them again; three versions of each test are available during a twelve-month-period.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO TAKE THE TESTS?  Beginning January 1, 2012
GED Study (Term) $25.00
GED Exam $100
GED Exam Test Retake Fee $13.00
