CGCC's Geoscience Department offers basic 100-level and 200-level classes that provide hand-on learning about the landscapes of the Northwest and are transferable to other colleges in Oregon and elsewhere. In addition, we offer G200 field trip-based classes that explore the Columbia River Gorge, John Day Basin, and other locations across the West and Northwest. We emphasize hands-on, outdoor learning.

Many of our classes include opportunities for service learning and collaboration with other regional centers, including the Columbia River Gorge Discovery Center.

We also work with local schools to connect their earth science and other classes with our students and with research scientists who are exploring the Columbia River Gorge and adjacent geologic features. We are actively involved with the community, and with cutting-edge science.
